+ SPEAKING OF SIESTAS!
{ Pictured: Ulysses resting from his little kitty journey. DeNitto © 2006 } A siesta /siːˈɛstə/, original Spanish pronunciation [ˈsjesta] is a short nap taken in the early afternoon, often after the midday meal. Such a period of sleep is a common tradition in some hot countries. The word siesta is Spanish, from the Latin hora sexta - "the sixth hour" (counting from dawn, therefore noon, hence "midday rest").
At Stressed.Pressed.Messed, the true definition is taken a bit further. If a nap
is not possible, but there is enough time allowed for any other type of break, it
is strongly encouraged to take advantage of that precious moment. As long as the mind and body can rest for a short period as often as possible during the work week, it can only enhance the quality of living.
Each month, learn more facts about SIESTAS and how you may benefit from taking them into your daily routine.
Below are May's SIESTA FACTS:
After a recent struggle to stay alert while driving, this article proved of immediate interest. According to the research conducted in the UK, it actually works with the people being studied.

+ TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS
THE PORTABLE OFFICE
If you find you are always preparing for a meeting, it's wise to be as portable as you can be. It's very easy to have basic office supplies with you at all times, as they make items small enough to fit in most any purse, briefcase or tote. These days, it doesn't take much effort to find a mini-sized stapler, measuring less than two inches. You can easily fit a stash of paper and binder clips of various sizes into a pouch, as well as page tabs and post-it notes. It's never a bad idea to have a highlighter, a blue pen, a black penand a fine-tip permanent marker, all of which come in mini-sizes.
You can customize your portable office supply kit exactly the way you would need for it to be in order to always be prepared for meetings, public transportation commutes, or those longer-than-usual waits at the dentist or salon.
This way, less time is wasted and you are not the cause of any delays.

+ MOM TIME
FORWARD: A note from SPM MOM.
During the early 1990's, as a mother raising two children through their first years, I now learn of many new products that are thrilling to me, even with my empty nest. I often find myself wishing that some them were available 22 years ago. Below are neat links and ideas to products or educational items currently on today's market for parents to explore for their children-- babies through college students!
What could you give to a college graduate??
As my own daughter is about to graduate from college, it seems appropriate to discuss what might be practical gifts for those entering the real world.
Below are some ideas for the graduation season.
1. Peter Walsh has a new document organizing system now available at Office Max.
PETER WALSH IN PLACE SYSTEM
2. Fishs Eddy has fun coffee mugs and trays honoring all of that student paper written on for 17 years!-- graph, script or ruled!
THE MEMO COLLECTION
3. The Wall Street Journal has a great series of finance books explaining how to keep up with personal finances-- a must for young adults!
WSJ PERSONAL FINANCE
4. Out of the dorm and into the apartment! IKEA is the way to go when shopping for the new home. As a welcome to the workplace, having a well organized wardrobe is essential. Customizing a closet on a budget is not so difficult with components from IKEA.
IKEA WARDROBES
5. College students work super hard at research and term papers and they tend to keep some of their work for future studies. Why not help them organize them for cold storage?
FILE BOXES
Next month, SPM Mom will show fun summer items for kids of various ages!
